ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
As a world leader in the manufacture of kitchen cabinets and other home improvement products, Masco is committed to conducting business in a manner that protects the quality of the environment in our communities as well as the health and safety of our employees. We do this by implementing aggressive policies that safeguard the health, safety and environments in which we live and work, as well as by ensuring our responsible use of the world’s natural resources.
Masco Kitchen Cabinet Forestry Policy
Masco kitchen cabinet operations expect suppliers to follow good environmental and sustainable forestry practices. Masco kitchen cabinet operations will work toward third party certification in its woodworking operations using ISO 14001 or Forestry Stewardship Council protocols for sustainable forestry and good environmental practices. Masco will support community outreach programs involving wood products.
Masco Kitchen Cabinet Initiatives
We encourage suppliers to use Forestry Stewardship Council or Sustainable Forestry Initiative protocols for timber supply and mills. We support local forestry and habitat initiatives, scholarship and training. We use residual waste from logging and sawmill operations and recycle chips and dust from manufacturing to make particleboard for kitchen cabinets. Rather than rely on fossil fuels, we currently use about 50,000 tons of wood by-products from cabinet manufacture to fire boilers that provide heat and energy. We use high solids coatings, along with state-of-the-art application equipment to reduce environmental emissions. We test finishes and other materials prior to use to minimize their potential for health or environmental risk. We financially support Habitat for Humanity and encourage our employees to volunteer for builds. We provide continuing training for our professionals who specialize in the environmental, health, and safety disciplines at our corporate and each of our manufacturing facilities.
Masco Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs Policy
We will strive to provide our employees with a workplace free of recognized hazards. We will strive to protect the environment of our communities. We will conserve natural resources. We will strive to design, manufacture and distribute products in a safe and environmentally sound manner. We will consider compliance with the law as being our minimum acceptable standard. We will provide timely communication on health, safety and environmental initiatives that may impact our employees and the community.
