HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Masco remains actively engaged with communities in which we have operations, and we provide support, financially and through board service and volunteer efforts, to improve the stability and capacity of non-profit, low-income housing organizations.
While our employees volunteer thousands of hours each year in support of a variety of social causes in their respective communities, our most significant effort involving employees is our partnership with Habitat for Humanity—an international organization devoted to building decent, affordable homes for people in need.
In the past five years, our employees have built Habitat homes in several southeast Michigan communities (predominantly Detroit), and we have sponsored homes in Indiana, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Canada. Additionally, we’ve donated funding for a total of ten homes in South Africa and Armenia in the past three years.
Each year in Detroit, hundreds of Masco volunteers work together to build at least one home from its foundation through the landscaping stage. A variety of our products are donated and featured in the construction including Merillat cabinets, Delta faucets, Behr paint, Milgard windows, Aqua Glass tubs, as well as other plumbing products, hardware, gutters and insulation.
Over the past few years, Masco (through its charitable foundation) has committed more than $2.3 million to Habitat for Humanity, and we are presently considering a leadership commitment to Habitat’s 2005 Jimmy Carter Work Project awarded to the State of Michigan. Masco is currently the most significant contributor to Habitat’s efforts in the Detroit metropolitan region and, this past year, we ranked among the top 25 contributors nationally and among the top three corporate contributors in the State of Michigan.
