Masco Corporation Foundation Extends Partnership with Habitat for Humanity International
May 10, 2012
Masco Corporation has a strong tradition of community involvement and volunteerism, which is why it makes perfect sense that the Masco Foundation has extended its global partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, the sixth-largest builder in the United States for 2011, according to Builder Magazine. Since its founding in 1976, the nonprofit organization has helped to build more than one half-million affordable houses serving more than 2.5 million people around the world.
Masco has supported Habitat since 1994, and in the past dozen years, employees at headquarters have contributed volunteer labor totaling more than 20,000 hours. Our business units have also been active participants. A prime example took place last year when Masco Cabinetry staffers donned hard hats and grabbed hammers to play a crucial role in the construction of Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley's 100th house – dubbed "The Merillat House" – in Washtenaw County, Michigan. More recently, Habitat for Humanity’s Detroit affiliate honored Masco Corporation with the “Corporate Lifetime Service” award.
In addition to volunteer labor, manufactured product and financial support are also key to this successful, long-term partnership. Behr Process Corporation, Delta Faucet Company, and Milgard Windows & Doors have also been deeply involved over the years, donating significant quantities of material and labor for a host of Habitat projects across the United States. Since 1999, we've also supported Habitat’s Michigan affiliates, assisting with training activities and partnering on Habitat International’s Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project and the national "First Ladies Build" initiative that engaged the spouses of former Michigan governors.
Masco’s support has helped Habitat provide simple, decent and affordable homes for hundreds of families in over 12 countries around the world – the U.S., Canada, Armenia, Ireland, Mexico, India, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Haiti. We’ve also participated with financial, product and volunteer resources in a number of states, particularly in Michigan and Indiana.
