30 Years Supporting the United Way

2020 marks the 30th year of Masco’s partnership with the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Every year since 1990, Masco World Headquarters has made both a corporate gift to the organization and fundraised among our employees, totaling over $5 million in donations to this vital organization in our region!

This year, the COVID-19 crisis made our partnership more important than ever. Due to the urgent needs the pandemic created in southeastern Michigan, Masco made our annual donation to UWSEM in the early spring rather than in the fall. UWSEM was able to deploy our funds quickly, supporting access to food for children and seniors, keeping its 2-1-1 support hotline staffed during a massive influx of calls and providing grants to nonprofits meeting families’ basic needs.

In addition, Masco is proud to be the matching sponsor for the UWSEM’s Giving Tuesday fundraiser running from November 24-December 2. All donations made during this period will go towards their Community Resilience Fund to help close the digital divide, with Masco matching up to $25,000.

In a time of uncertainty, the United Way for Southeastern Michigan has been a bedrock for our community. We are proud to celebrate three decades of partnership with their organization and our employees’ commitment to #LiveUnited.

This year, Masco is partnering with the Detroit news station WDIV to broadcast a special series in Masco World Headquarters’ home region of Southeast Michigan. Through televised segments airing weekly on WDIV Detroit, the year-long series, called Go 4 It, is celebrating good news by shining a spotlight on the philanthropic impact made by nonprofit organizations, corporations, and individuals. Students Learn about STEM Careers at Masco

In October, Masco hosted students from Detroit-based Central High School for a day to learn about some unique careers as part of our nonprofit partner Life Remodeled’s “Career Visioning Field Trips.” First touring our Flight Operations office, the students saw the airplane hangar and heard about the variety of job paths available in aviation. Then, at Masco Research & Development, they met with our scientists who explained how they test our products for safety and durability by using their expertise in chemistry, metallurgy, microbiology and more. Masco is proud to support the National Wildlife Federation, the USA’s largest private, nonprofit conservation education and advocacy organization.
