Masco Marks 25 Years With DPTV

Masco has been a proud supporter of Detroit Public Television for 25 years, and 2020 made this organization’s work to increase Michiganders’ access to—and understanding of—the problems and opportunities facing our communities more crucial than ever. At a time when only 4% of public news is produced by local stations, DPTV serves as a critical free, trusted, accessible, and inclusive resource for all Detroiters, with an emphasis on inclusion of underrepresented communities.

In particular, DPTV’s One Detroit program continued serving as a trusted news source for the City of Detroit during a historic period of pandemic, racial reckoning, economic upheaval, and political turmoil. With the spread of COVID-19 in early 2020, One Detroit mobilized to support the COVID313 Community Coalition to ensure Detroiters have access to reliable updates and resources throughout the pandemic.

DPTV and its One Detroit producers have also been facilitating online town halls on critical issues around COVID-19 and racial justice that reach thousands of Detroiters every week, and DPTV continues to run the locally produced American Black Journal program, the longest running news serial dedicated to the experiences of African Americans and Black Americans.

Additionally, in response to closures of Detroit’s creative arts events and venues during the pandemic, One Detroit began airing a weekly arts and culture episode to offer virtual experiences, special coverage of signature lecture series, and livestream events at museums and galleries in the region, along with showcasing regional and local talent.

Masco is honored to help bring the excellent work of One Detroit, as well as other DPTV educational and entertainment programs, to millions of viewers across the Great Lakes Region.
