Liberty Hardware Supports Anti-bias Nonprofit

Since 2018, our Liberty Hardware business unit in Winston-Salem, NC, has been partnering with the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), a human relations organization that works to build communities free of bias, bigotry and racism by promoting understanding and respect among all cultures, races and religions.

In the last three years, NCCJ has been a great corporate thought partner and has led a number of different trainings for Liberty employees surrounding unconscious bias and the impact of racial inequality across systems. Through these sessions, Liberty employees have examined how their unconscious biases, personal experiences and identity shape their unique perspectives of the world, themselves and others, and how these factors impact both personal and professional decision-making. NCCJ’s workplace and educator programs have equipped Liberty participants with the knowledge and tools they need to create more inclusive spaces in their workplace, community and personal lives.

In addition to helping communities confront tough issues and creating opportunities for dialogue, NCCJ’s largest reach is through their acclaimed youth leadership program, Anytown. Each summer, the program gathers two diverse groups of high school students in the Piedmont Triad to spend a week in the mountains of western North Carolina. Together, they tackle tough topics like race, religion, and gender identity, learning to respectfully bridge their differences and build an inclusive community. Then they take what they’ve learned back home, making a difference in their schools and everywhere they go. The children of some Liberty employees have even had the opportunity to attend Anytown throughout the years!

We’re proud of Liberty’s wonderful partnership with and support for NCCJ, and the Liberty Hardware Team looks forward to supporting and working with this great organization in the future.
