Masco Celebrates 25 Years of Diversifying Classical Music with Sphinx

In late January, Masco was proud to support the Sphinx Organization’s 25th Annual Competition, a national event offering young Black and Latinx classical string players a chance to compete under the guidance of an internationally renowned panel of judges and to perform with and receive mentorship from established professional musicians.

Masco has supported Sphinx every year since the Competition’s beginning in 1997. Consisting of both Junior (17 and under) and Senior (18-30) Division Finals, the competition sees contestants perform with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, the unique all Black and Latinx orchestra comprised of top professionals from around the country, and compete for a total of nearly $100,000 in prizes, with all semi-finalists and finalists also able to access scholarships and instruments through the Sphinx Music Assistance Fund. While the event normally takes place in downtown Detroit, due to the ongoing pandemic, the 2022 Competition streamed live on the Sphinx website.
