Masco Companies Go All in on Girls Inc.

This year, three companies in the Masco family supported branches of Girls Inc., a nonprofit whose network of local organizations serves girls ages 6-18 at more than 1,500 sites in 350 cities across the United States and Canada. With research-based programming delivered by trained professionals, Girls Inc. focuses on the development of the whole girl, supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. Through the organization’s work, Girls Inc. participants are less likely to engage in risky behavior and more likely to graduate from postsecondary education.

Both our Behr Paint and our Brasstech companies supported Girls Inc. of OC, located in Orange County, CA. While Brasstech gave general program support to fund the nonprofit’s key educational activities, Behr’s sponsorship focused specifically on the College Bound program, a comprehensive and immersive college readiness program for predominantly low-income middle and high school girls. College Bound supports girls in establishing personal and academic goals, preparing them to be competitive college applicants and successful college students, and finding a higher education path that’s right for them. Staff and volunteer mentors, including a couple writing volunteers from Behr, play a large role to guide and support girls through the entire college application process, including admission essay writing and comprehensive test preparation.

Behr Paint also sponsored Girls Inc. of Tarrant County in Texas, donating funds to support STEM and College & Career programs. This donation allowed Girls Inc. of Tarrant County to rejuvenate their curricula, provide field trips for career pathways and collegiate exposure, and cover costs for women in business panels attended by Girls Inc. girls.

Finally, Delta Faucet Company sponsored Girls Inc. of Indianapolis to support two programs. The first, Eureka!, is a STEM-based approach to leadership development for girls in grades 8-12. This 5-year program exposes participants to a variety of hands-on activities from the whole spectrum of STEM topics, while incorporating other important programming as well. The second, Young Women in Leadership (YWiL), is a year-round program that enables girls to grow into successful adults through college and career preparedness and leadership development programming.

Cheers to impacting girls’ education across three Masco companies and across three states!
