Local Impact: SAY Detroit

In December 2020, Masco was excited to begin a partnership with SAY Detroit, a multifaceted nonprofit founded by acclaimed author Mitch Albom that improves the lives of Detroit’s neediest citizens through shelter, food, medical care, volunteer efforts and education. As a home improvement company, Masco’s donation will support SAY Detroit’s Working Homes / Working Families program.

Started in 2011, this program uses volunteers to refurbish empty homes in Detroit and donate them to working families in need. Recipient families pay utilities and taxes and must remain employed for two years; upon meeting these requirements, the families are given ownership. To date, more than 40 families have received a fully refurbished home through Working Homes / Working Families.

We look forward to growing this partnership in 2021 and supporting SAY Detroit’s efforts in the fight against homelessness.

Masco Attends “Topping Off” Ceremony for Fisher House Detroit

In February, Masco nonprofit partner Fisher House held a ceremony to celebrate the “topping off” of their new Detroit location and the 99th Fisher House in the U.S. With plans to open its doors to military families this fall, supporters gathered to witness a milestone in the construction timeline: the placing of the final beam in the structure. Masco Helps Welcomes New Refugee Neighbors to Southeast MI

In 2023, Masco partnered with the nonprofit Samaritas and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth, Michigan, to turn a vacant colonial house on the St. John’s property into a home for resettling refugee families coming to the Great Lakes State. With capacity to fit up to eight people, the home will serve one family at a time; when the residing family is on their feet and ready to move into their own place, another refugee family in need will take over occupancy of the Plymouth house.
