Masco Named Corporate Partner of the Year by Women’s Shelter

Last month, Masco was honored to be named the Corporate Sponsor of the Year by our nonprofit partner First Step. First Step is a domestic violence shelter serving women and their children with comprehensive services, from emergency shelter to counseling, legal services, and transitional housing support.

Masco helped the organization through in-kind donations when First Step constructed its current shelter in metro-Detroit in 2010. In response to research about the factors that often prevent women from seeking safety, Masco also helped the organization open A.R.K., an on-site animal shelter that allows women to bring their pets to First Step when they leave their homes.

We’re grateful to all the staff and volunteers who make First Step such a valuable resource for the women in our region!

In February, Masco nonprofit partner Fisher House held a ceremony to celebrate the “topping off” of their new Detroit location and the 99th Fisher House in the U.S. With plans to open its doors to military families this fall, supporters gathered to witness a milestone in the construction timeline: the placing of the final beam in the structure. Masco Helps Welcomes New Refugee Neighbors to Southeast MI

In 2023, Masco partnered with the nonprofit Samaritas and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth, Michigan, to turn a vacant colonial house on the St. John’s property into a home for resettling refugee families coming to the Great Lakes State. With capacity to fit up to eight people, the home will serve one family at a time; when the residing family is on their feet and ready to move into their own place, another refugee family in need will take over occupancy of the Plymouth house.
