Masco Veterans Partner Opens Doors

After years of tireless advocacy and fundraising, Fisher House Michigan has officially opened doors at its brand-new facility next to VA Ann Arbor!

Located around the world, Fisher Houses are free shelters to house families whose loved ones are being treated at nearby VA hospitals and military centers. As the first Fisher House in Michigan, the Ann Arbor facility is meeting a considerable need; since opening in June, they have already housed 150 families!

Masco was proud to help make the Ann Arbor Fisher House possible through $250,000 in donations for the $7M project. Fisher House Michigan is now working on plans for a second Michigan site, which would allow military families to stay in a safe and comforting environment close to VA Detroit. When both Michigan Fisher Houses are operational, they will be able to host as many as 11,680 families each year, saving families over $1.5 million annually in out-of-pocket lodging expenses.

Thank you to all who were involved in this important undertaking and those working to ensure current and former military members and their families can stay together during critical medical treatments.

In February, Masco nonprofit partner Fisher House held a ceremony to celebrate the “topping off” of their new Detroit location and the 99th Fisher House in the U.S. With plans to open its doors to military families this fall, supporters gathered to witness a milestone in the construction timeline: the placing of the final beam in the structure. Masco Helps Welcomes New Refugee Neighbors to Southeast MI

In 2023, Masco partnered with the nonprofit Samaritas and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Plymouth, Michigan, to turn a vacant colonial house on the St. John’s property into a home for resettling refugee families coming to the Great Lakes State. With capacity to fit up to eight people, the home will serve one family at a time; when the residing family is on their feet and ready to move into their own place, another refugee family in need will take over occupancy of the Plymouth house.
